Hair Loss? Try FDA Approved Medications!

Propecia, a pill successfully used in treating different degrees of baldness in male and female patients with alopecia, is rightfully considered as the most powerful of existing hair-loss medications. Propecia was granted FDA approval back in 1997 and has since been steadily popular on the market. This medication has already helped thousands of men suffering from so-called male-pattern baldness, or a gradual and, if untreated, irreversible loss of hair along the hairline and on the crown of the head. This specific type of baldness is believed to be caused by a natural steroid hormone known as DHT. This substance, implicated in damaging hair follicles and inducing baldness, is manufactured within the body from the male hormone testosterone. Almost miraculously, Propecia can diminish the amounts of DHT, thus stopping hair fall and restoring healthy hair!

This unique effect of Propecia is due to its main ingredient Finasteride - a potent drug that fights the conversion of testosterone into DHT and thus protects hair follicles from the damage. Interestingly, this medication is also effective in cases of female-pattern hair loss, especially in middle-aged women whose bodies produce elevated levels of testosterone after menopause.

Numerous scientific trials have been conducted to prove the effectiveness of Finasteride, in general, and Propecia, in particular, in treating hormonally-triggered baldness. In one major study that looked at the effects of the drug in re-growing lost hair of a large group of male patients with baldness, almost half of the patients experienced positive results. Those ranged from a complete inhibition of hair shedding to a dramatic restoration of the lost locks!

During controlled clinical studies, Propecia has also demonstrated good results in treating female hair loss, particularly in post-menopausal women suffering from mild to moderate baldness.
